Cotton Saree With Ajrakh Border, Pallu & Blouse
The art of Ajrakh block printing belongs to Gujrat. It is a unique block printed textile with complex patterns following a detailed block printing technique. Generally, Ajrakh is printed on both sides using resist printing method by hand with hand carved wooden blocks. It’s a slow process and requires skilled artisans. The shapes and motifs of Ajrakh echo the architectural forms of Islamic architecture’s intricate jali windows and trefoil arches.
The cloth is made in a sixteen step process of washing, dyeing, printing, and drying, which requires a high level of skill and concentration in order to keep colours fast and even. Pomegranate seeds, gum, Harde powder, wood, flour of Kachika, flower of Dhavadi, alizarine and locally cultivated Indigo are just some of the natural resources that printers use in this craft.
This is a 100 % pure handcrafted cotton Saree. Designed creatively with innovative thought, the artisan has used applique work technique to make interesting patterns from printed Ajrakh fabric after dyeing the cotton base in desirable colours. These have been combined with colourful hand embroidered mirrors on the body and stitch on the pallu. The blouse pieces too have been aesthetically planned and designed with a different yet complementary pattern on it.
This Saree has an indigo blue base, yellow embroidery and Ajrakh is dyed in black and monochromatic shades of blue with some yellow tones. It’s an offbeat kind of a Saree, a perfect drape for creative professionals to wear to work or informal outings.
