UNFOLDING THE NINE YARDS- ARTISAN SAGA’S WAY

September 30, 20177

Festivities are in the air.Indian festivals are a tool to bring back life to a state of exuberance and enthusiasm. While I am penning down my thoughts, can find myself already overwhelmed with the festive fervor around.  What better way to celebrate our festivals than to be among family and friends. Lavish upon gifts and secure gifts. Talking of gifts nothing can beat the gift of six yards to the women in your family and friends.  And if it’s a traditional weave from far and wide in our country,  I promise you will never go wrong. Women nowadays are giving a lot of significance to regional and authentic textile weaves of our nation. But yes, procuring them from faithful sources remains a far cry.

But now you just have to keep your worries aside because the very diligent and expert team at Artisan Saga is doing just that, just for the six-yard lovers.

The intellect behind the very existence of Artisan Saga, Kaushik Rajani, and Seema Agrawal have proved themselves in just a short span of one and half years. At the outset, this husband and wife duo though not from the textile background but have always had a keen sense of rich heritage & culture. Kaushik, a fine administrator, with his natural love for travel and experience in IT sector, teamed with Seema’s grounding in construction, interior, and furniture design along with her artistic temperament & love for art and beauty, has proved to be an asset, evident in all their works.

Kaushik and Seema are directly involved in sourcing, designing and customising handwoven Sarees from the length and breadth of this country.

Upon asking about the USP of Artisan Saga, Seema quips,” Handpicking the best from the finest hand, we curate Handloom Sarees that are a classic expression of our rich tradition & culture, reflecting the wonder of our diversified weaves & styles, each with their distinctive character. All our Sarees are Hand-Woven in Pure Fabric.”

Artisan Saga as the name suggests is a tale for the lover of art & beauty, where the form, color & texture are interwoven and brought to life by the creative craftsmen through their inspiring work.

Artisan Saga curates classic Banarasi Weaves, Paithani & Patola Weaves in Cotton & Silk, both, Bandhani, Shibori, Dabu & Ajrakh Handblock Prints. To accessorize these beauties, they also curate Handcrafted Potlis & Clutch Bags, along with Silver & Real Stone Jewellery handcrafted by their in-house craftsmen. Also available are exclusive Handwoven Dupattas in Banarasi & Ikat Weaves & in vibrant hues of Bandhani.

It’s a matter of pride for me to have collaborated with Artisan Saga, one of the finest and genuine brands for handwoven, heirloom creations.

1.The first drape I am exhibiting here is a luxurious weave is  Paithani from Maharashtra.

It is named after the Paithan town in Aurangabad, Maharashtra state where they are woven by hand. Made from a very fine silk, it is considered as one of the richest saris in India. Paithani is characterized by borders of an oblique square design, and a pallu with a peacock design. They are the requisite part of a bridal trousseau. The motives are inspired by figures in Ajanta Caves and are generally lotus flowers, peacock, parrot designs. These Paithanis in their vivacious hues are mesmerizing & even today in many households these are considered as a treasured heirloom that is passed on from generation to generation.

The beautiful kaleidoscope blue and green color saree draped by me is a delightful and a dream drape. The kaleidoscopic effect is achieved by using one color for weaving lengthwise and another for weaving widthwise. The border in a contrast of purple with chevron zari pattern and an elaborate, rich pallu with geometrical flowers is one of a kind saree. This saree is a dream possession for women who like the richness and exuberance of silk yet want the saree to retain its sophisticated look.

2.The second saree I got an opportunity to showcase is a Banarsi Tonchoi.

I don’t think Banarsi sarees require any introduction. They have been holding a significant place in every lady’s wardrobe since time immemorial. The sarees are among the finest sarees in India and are known for their gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery. The sarees are made of finely woven silk and are adorned with intricate design, and, because of these engravings, are relatively heavy. The sarees are often part of an Indian bride’s trousseau. All Saree wearers just have to have at least one Banarasi Silk Saree in their wardrobe. The beautiful leaf green Banarasi saree I am draping here is a

The beautiful leaf green Banarasi saree I am draping here is a tanchoi & has gold and pink paisleys intricately woven on it. A Banarasi when adorned enhances the natural grace & beauty of the woman and thus I am in love with it.The opulent and detailed pallu promises to make any woman feel like a queen.

3. Patola Sarees, popularly called as The Pride Of Gujarat is the saree I completely got smitten with.

Women who are in love with a traditional legacy of our country either already have at least one Patola in their wardrobe or on their wishlist. You definitely can’t put them to a fault. These sarees are of course so special.Be it cotton or silk, Patola saree is definitely worth a buy.Handweaving a Patola Saree is not an easy task, the skill of the creative craftsman is put to test.

In this collaboration with Artisan Saga, when this resplendent Handwoven Rajkot Patola Silk Saree was shown to me, I instantly fell head over heels with this unique masterpiece. No wonder when I draped it, felt aristocratic & royal.Purple is associated with royalty, this purple saree with polka dots on the body has a very refined Zari border. The pallu has extravagant cows and a tree intricately woven on it.

THE CANVAS OF SIX YARDS BY ARTISAN SAGA!

April 25, 20187205_03

The saree is an utterly feminine, elegant and gracefully draped garment. There is nobody who quite wears a saree like an Indian woman. It’s inevitable with the sizable textile industry that has been in existence since eons. Our rich handloom tradition is one of them. Undoubtedly, anything that is made so painstakingly with hands is a labour of love.

My belief in handloom sector gets firm as its one of the most recognizable parts of our culture. And if you love your culture and fond of various art forms, what better way to amalgamate sarees with ancient art forms, depicting various folklores.

Owing to my present status as a fashion blogger, I have been fortunate enough of seeing, feeling and many times wearing some of the exquisite art forms of India. My thirst for various exquisite art forms, those too on six yards seems doesn’t seem to seize now. Whoa! ‘The more I unearth the more I fall for it.’

If you are looking for sarees which are perfectly rooted in Indian traditions yet come across contemporary, wait no further. Artisan Saga, an eminent name in the field of curating state of the art sarees from all across the nation, is all set to launch their never seen before summer collection.

Kaushik and Seema Agarwal, the brains behind Artisan saga have been exhibiting their keen sense of rich heritage and culture for a long time now. This husband-wife duo has been directly involved in sourcing, designing and customizing handwoven sarees from all across the country.

On asking Seema about the inspiration behind creating this series, she quips ‘Artisan Saga, in keeping with its spirit and aim, re-introduces the old art forms in their new avatar as wearable Art & launches a series of exquisitely Hand painted Sarees, called, ‘THE INNER CONNECT’, where the Six Yard finds its new expression by way of Canvas & embarks you on an inner journey. Our concepts have evolved from a deeper level of consciousness which have been beautifully expressed by our skilled & talented artist in the style inspired by Miniature Art and Raagmala Paintings.’

I am certain, you all must be curious to witness these state of the art sarees. Well I got to adorn and feel the following three sarees from their collection.

  1. The first one you can see here is a white Chanderi with ragamala painting- Chanderi is certainly the fabric of the season. As light as feather and elegant in style and if that saree is done up with the ragamala style of paintings, anyone would fall in love with it.7394_01

Ragamala paintings are a series of illustrative miniature paintings from medieval India based on Ragamala or the “garland of ragas.”They are considered as a true blend of poetry and classical music. They narrate various musical modes, ragas, of north Indian music. Each painting is accompanied by a brief inscription that suggests the mood of the raga, most frequently love – in its various aspects – and devotion.

This painting on the pallu of the saree depict daily life elements, and on border expressing the beauty in the joy of everyday life.

As told this creation is expressed through music and dance. On a deeper level, this art form expresses human aspirations towards divinity. These sarees are perfectly rooted in tradition while staying contemporary.

2.If you’re wondering what latest saree color trends are in for this season, don’t worry! White is very trendy this season. Drapes of these colors are a great option for daytime parties and weddings. So my second saree to write about is white chanderi yet again.    This white chanderi saree with zari border depicts the divine raasleela with the gopis.

7246_02

The Rass Lila or Rass dance is part of the traditional story of Krishna described in Hindu scriptures such as the BhagavataPurana and literature such as the Gita Govinda, where he dances with Radha and her sakhis. The double circle is typical expression in Jaipur style of painting, in the centre is the symbolic feet of Krishan Radha- the soul wedded to the divine and not easily visible and partially ,that too only to the seeker-in this case all the gopis are the aspirants, rest of the body has floral motifs and indicative of happiness and beauty.

Saree 3 – The colour pallet Artisan Saga has come up with is a true blend of subtle whites and bright hues for the people who love vibrancy in the wardrobes.

7528_01

The deep orange chanderi saree what you can see me adorning has famous “DolaMaru “on Pallu .DholaMaru is a Rajasthani folk lore of love – companionship of true soulmates. It’s a romantic tale of Dhola and Maru. The border is floral indicating happiness, romance and beauty in their togetherness. The body of the saree has interesting motifs of elephant / camel & horse symbolizing the three royal elements which are seen in all the miniature paintings.Camel symbolizes love, horse for power, elephant for good luck. All the three elements are considered necessary to lead a happy harmonious life!

So, all you gorgeous saree lovers, aren’t these sarees amazingly exquisite and worth a collector’s choice. If you are in agreement with me, then my recommendation is not to miss them possessing in your closets and be rest assured to turn hundred heads when you drape them.

The sarees which are gonna take summer market by the storm are definitely here for all of us for grabs.

Ladies kindly block your dates for forthcoming launch of these sarees on 28th n 29th April 2018 at Gallery 1AQ, Mehrauli road, New Delhi and on the social media these will be launched on 30th of this month. To personally get in touch feel free to contact at 9971008407 .
